主講人簡介：馮欣, 原北理工自動控制系碩士畢業, 美圣路易斯華盛頓大學系統科學博士學位. 現任美國Marquette University大學終身教授. 主要研究方向為Intelligent Control and Computational Intelligence, Dynamic Modeling of Nonlinear and Chaotic Systems, Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition. 過去10余年作為主要科研項目主持人,曾獲得美國國家科學基金會,美國醫療研究院, 美國太空總署,以及工業界多個科研項目，近200萬美元科研經費. 先后發表80多篇論文。獲得美國3項發明專利。美國電機電子工程師協會 (IEEE) 高級會員，多次擔任多個大型國際會議的執行主席，分會主席，和組委會委員,并任美國多家公司高級顧問。
 
講座內容摘要：

This talk summarizes a new perspective in the area of engineering education, called Discovery Learning that is currently being practiced in the College of Engineering (COE) at Marquette University. It is essentially a student-centered learning approach which turns the traditional passive learning mode into an active one. We will review the education literature and document examples of discovery learning currently practiced in the COE and other American universities, and discuss the COE-specific definition of discovery learning.  We also will discuss the assessment of the benefits, costs, and tradeoffs associated with increasing the level of discovery learning in the COE.
